Texas Roadhouse Dec 03, 2008
My friends Lee and Joe were in town for Thanksgiving, and Joe recommended a new place for us to go for dinner. Near the Buckland Hills Mall in Manchester, CT, high on the hill, we could see the Texas Roadhouse Restaurant. Lee and I arrived there first, Joe was coming down from Massachusetts and still 20 min. away, so we waited for him in the bar. My first impression walking in was good, they had a glass case displaying different cuts of meat, raw steaks where you could see the marbling. Above each shelf was the price, if you wanted that particular cut for dinner. We put our name on the wait list, and they gave us a paper ticket with a number on it. This was definitely a Texas "theme" restaurant, with all sorts of memorabilia on the walls... Ten Gallon Hats, Longhorns, etc. They also had a big bucket filled with free boxes of crayons and coloring placemats, to keep kids occupied. We got quick, friendly service in the bar, got our beers right away with a smile. They also had complimentary buckets of salted, in-the-shell peanuts around the bar. Empty peanut shells all over the floor spoke of the casual atmosphere of this family-friendly restaurant! They had signs on different walls that displayed lit-up red numbers, that corresponded with the paper ticket of whoever's table was ready at that time. By the time our #93 was displayed, Joe had arrived. They seated us in a booth, and brought a complimentary basket of buttered rolls.. the menus were already in a wooden slot on the table. I ordered a nice 18oz T-bone steak dinner, with caramelized onions, sauteed mushrooms, and steak fries, with a salad. It was delicious, cooked to perfection, and enough to take some home for lunch the next day! The college-age waitress was friendly, attentive, and filled our requests immediately. We sat in the booth catching up on things for quite awhile, even as the rest of our section emptied out, but felt no pressure to leave after we paid our bill. The place was clean, (well, except for the peanut shells all over the floor!) The restrooms were in good order, and we had no complaints. We got a laugh reading the back of the menu, though... apparently, the headquarters for "Texas" Roadhouse is in Illinois...and the first restaurant in the chain was in Indiana! So much for authenticity! Well, it was a good experience... I'm sure we will be back again next year!

No, I saw it... just forgot to mention.. My view was captured by all the steaks! They had little buckets of peanuts on every table, and at the bar as well

We've been to a couple of thier locations and wish we had one closer than the 200+ miles from here. Great food, great feeling, very country, and a fun meal at a good price!! Did you miss the huge barrel of peanuts in the waiting area? :D
