Terre Haute Vacation Guide
Terre Haute is a city of about 60,000 located in the west central area of Indiana along the Illinois border. Some not so pretty claims to fame, Terre Haute is home to federal death row, and had in its history been a haven for gambling and prostitution which enticed gangsters such as Al Capone to make Terre Haute a vacation destination. Local lore claims the term "railroaded" originated in Terre Haute as visiting gangsters restrained themselves from robbery and other crime for fear they would be trying to make a getaway only to find temselves cornered by a train traveling on one of the many tracks that criss-cross the city, hence being "railroaded".

Bike & Build provides young adults with the opportunity to participate in a cross-country bike trip across the US to raise awareness for affordable housing. My route cycled from Virginia Beach, VA to Cannon Beach, OR (5/15/08-7/25/08). Once a week, we traded our bikes in for hammers and helped with Habitat for Humanity or another affordable housing organization. It was, by far, the greatest travel experience I have ever had.
