Terra Maris Hotel Hersonissos

David and I stopped at the town of Hersonissos at 5 pm.... at 7 we still had not found a room.. We took a chance and stopped at Terra Maris to see if it was out of our price range. It was off season (November) and it was available for $87.50 with breakfast.

We were happy to find a room at all. We had walked and driven in the town for two hours and found all of the motels closed. We even tried to talk one motel owner who was closed to take us... nope.... he wouldn't so we continued looking. We were directed to the police department and they tried calling places... one was 187.50 euros per night... yikes.. We continued looking...

We finally took a chance and checked with the Terra Maris although it looked way out of our price range.. David bravely walked in in his shorts to chk the price... Surprisingly: with breakfast it was 87.50 Euros... not impossible... .We checked in and walked a looongg way to the end of the motel to our room.... it was beautiful! It had a King bed.. (very important for David as he's 6'6 or 2 meters tall) ...... The room had a refrigerator,large bath room with a tub, table and chairs, couch, king bed and a huge outside deck. We loved it!

The buffet breakfast was absolutely wonderful: American breakfast items: eggs, bacon, ham, toast and jelly. Greek breakfast of cereals, yogurt and honey and juices. Oriental items, cheeses, meats, vegetables, different types of cakes and pies... amazing variety.

The lobby was large and friendly. We were put off by the ugly picture that didn't see to match anything. it was probably 15 feet long and 8 feet wide .... very modern.. it didn't match the paintings and classic wood work of the rest of the lobby.. definately a poor choice .... On the opposite side of the lobby was a wonderful fountain area with a pool. very pretty.

they had an internet that was 1 euro per hour. not too bad and the connection was fairly fast. we put a few hours in at that area... :)

We were amazed to see a 13th century church off of the lobby area. We were baffled by it but found it was there when they wanted to develope the site so they just incorporated the church into the motel. It was really interesting ...

The personnell were very friendly and tried their best to help. We reeally enjoyed our stay. It wasn't the cheapest but it was certainly very nice. Ir was an absolutely wonderful place to end our visit to Crete!
