Termessos Overview

High in the mountains, Termessos was one of only two cities to withstand the might of Alexander the Great. In fact according to legend it was defeated once, by Bellepheron riding Pegasus. In real life, the city was eventually destroyed when an earthquake shattered its aqueduct. Today, it is an almost completely unrestored ruin, visiting involves a half hour hike up a mountainside and scrambles over the fallen blocks of the great walls. Visitors are rewarded with what must be one of the most dramatic sights in this part of the world-the largely intact theatre perched on the edge of a massive cliff.
