Road trip! Today we drove 630 miles from Charlotte to Memphis, TN. Our final destination is San Fran to get stuff set up for the cyclists' orientation. So let me clarify this for you: we're driving from Charlotte to the other side of the country in 6 days so that we can drive BACK to D.C. in 63 days THEN back to Charlotte? Awesome! We're driving to San Fran because we're taking the vans and all of the equipment we will need for the whole summer. I rode over with Dan from north team and Ruben ...

This is our first real Greyhound Bus trip and it proves to be a little stressful! The previous night we booked a taxi to get us to the depot with 45 mins to spare. After 10 mins we are still waiting and despite two phone calls and another to another taxi company still nothing. At the last minute a worker at the Motel takes us down and we gratefully give him a very good taxi fare. We have tickets to pick up and the line is long. With aching back I stand in th...

The reason we went to Bristol was our squadron was doing the flyover at the race and there had to be a ground crew there in case anything went wrong on the jets. We left out from Beaufort Sc. on Friday Aug. 22. and started drinking at 6:30 AM. We made it to Bristol around 3:00 PM still drinking. We picked up the pilots at the airport and had a couple of drinks with them before going to the race. At the race, we were in the boxes up at the top where you could see everythi...

Well it's a little difficult for me to remember this trip since I'm writing it a year and a half later. What I recall is an overabundance of cowboy hats. An amazing music scene, and that is NOT exclusively country! People were incredibly friendly and fun and the city was a lot of fun. The highways are great, nothing like Pennsylvania. I went to Maggiano's for the first time while I was there and it was excellent! This city has a little bit of everythin...

It started innocently enough; I visited Juneau, Alaska in June 1993 and explored the State Capitol building. A few months later, It was Montgomery, Alabama's. In the course of time, it became a hobby. Near the end it became a bit of an obsession. Then, in August of 2006, I visited my 50th US State Capitol building in Pierre, SD. (Yeh!)
Yes, I know, I'm a geography nerd....

Cave City, KY to Cumberland Gap National Park, VA
Had a good nights rest at Cave City even though the trains were serenading us throughout the night (we love trains …others might not). :-}
Had breakfast at the local Cracker Barrel. It was so busy due to being Memorial Day I’m sure, but well worth the wait..very good food. We did get a late start today however. We headed out to Cumberland Falls, KY and of course picked a slow going curvy r...
