Ruby Falls in Chattanooga was a must see. So off we went and found our way there. It’s a pretty easy, and best of all, it was open!!!! A rather high price to pay for admission, but then I think everything is too high a price. As seniors we paid $13.95 each plus tax. It’s a ride on an elevator down 260 feet and then a walk along the trail for about a half mile to the falls. There are a few places along the way to look at but most of the trail was created to be tall enough to walk in. Origi...

We didn't set an alarm & didn't wake up till 0830. We strolled down to the convention center & usually on the last day there is less people & chaos. This was Nahville Star day for me as almost everyone I met appeared on the show. We met 2005 nashville star winner ERICKA JO. She was extremely nice & I'm now a fan of hers. lol I got a ticket to meet CHRIS YOUNG, the winner from this year was also nice but quiet. I also met newbie AUSTIN CODY who was VERY friendly ...

Tim's text woke me up early, 'i'll be there in 30mins', uh oh I was still in bed damn. I quickly showered and got changed and met him outside the hostel. He'd been working in Orlando but had flown to Nashville via Charlotte early that morning so was a bit tired. It was a very nice sunny day. We went for breakfast at a Cracker Barrel which was so fun, the shop sells all sorts of Tennessee items or as Tim put it 'Its all s###'. We waited 20 minutes for a table as it was really busy, i had a rea...

I can't seem to read just one book at a time.
I'm most of the way through Forgotten Kingdom by Peter Goullart, getting in the mood for Lijiang. He was born around the turn of the 20th century in Russia and fled with his mother eventually to Shanghai around the time of the Russian Revolution. He became a tour operator for American Express in China and eventually worked for the government in setting up industrial cooperatives in Southwestern China.
A Taoist, Gou...

My wife loves visiting National Parks and well, although not as much as she, I do too.
We had intended on flying over to Rapid City, South Dakota and seeing Mt. Rushmore and the Black Hills area. We were also going to visit Devil's Tower in Wyoming, and sneek up into southeast Montana. The flights tightened up last minute and so we decided to stay grounded and drive the six hour drive to the Smoky National Park.
We spent 3 days and two nights exploring Gatlinburg and the Smoky M...

I was pretty excited to be going to the South for the first time and was even more excited that I would be hitting 3 states in total. My friend Noah had decided to fly into Little Rock as it was the cheapest flight around and from there we would take a rental car and drive immediately to Memphis.
If you are interested in a more detailed account of the drive to Memphis, please check out my Arkansas Blog. But on this page I will give you a brief synopsis. Basically it...

Ever heard of the "Chattanooga Choo Choo" or the haunted Reed Hotel? Well welcome to the town in which I live! :D It's a great city nestled in the Smoky Mountains. It's a good mix of old and new...so come on by and visit sometime! :D

Went on a great trip today to the 3rd most popular river for whitewater rafting in the U.S. Located in the Cherokee National Forest in TN, the Ocoee River was dammed and sections flooded by the Tennessee Valley Authority beginning in as early as 1933. The course was the site of the 1996 Summer Olympic Games whitewater competitions and continues to be a very popular destination.

Well, I finally buttoned the castle and started the journey in my Ford Escort where the turning the air conditioning up consist of rolling the windows down a bit more and speeding up. But it was good to see some old friends before I head out and hit the honky tonks one (or two) more times down on Broadway!

I have been resting my travel legs for a few nights here at an RV park near the Cherokee National Forest. It just so happens this weekend an Native American celebration will be taking place here, so I look forward to being a part of that gathering . Coincidentally, I just began a bio about Crazy Horse yesterday that I picked up on the road over here at a great used book store in Ocoee, another reason to drive backroads...
Today I took a bike ride down the road, approx 5 miles, to a litt...

So, I have lived in Nashville for over 6 years. It is one of my favorite cities! I love music, everything about it, so being in "Music City" is very appropriate. I have seen some of my favorite concerts here. All in all, Nashville never gets boring. There is always something going on. Here are just a few pics that I have taken....

Day 6, Friday, July 25, 2003
We have another full day planned. We need to drive nearly 500 miles from Ashland to Nashville, TN. We have a planned stop in Monterey, TN for another family obligation. Then the pay off is going to be second row seats at the Grand Ole Opry. We started out, as we had the last two days, by eating a light breakfast at the Best Western we were staying at. We all really liked this hotel. The beds were comfortable, the location was good, the people were friendl...

Memphis, what a city! So we really arrived the same night we were in St. Louis, but we didn’t really do much that night except arrive at Sarah’s grandparent’s house, where we were staying. But first…we left Missouri and went in to Arkansas on the way to Tennessee. The views in Arkansas were comparable to those in Missouri…lots of rocks. We also had to do a gas stop…and Arkansas has CHEAP gas! We were filling up in MN/IA at around $3.05 a gallon…here it was as low as $2.46!...

This trip to Memphis this gal couldn't hang out cuz it was so Cold.
Memphis is the home of the blues and rock and roll. All of the early recording studios are there; Stax, Sun, HI/Royal, and other studios, as well as the Civil Rights museum and so much more. I usually visit some of the sites if I have the time, but this time the weather wasn't working with me. But I did hang out for a minute with the Ambassador of Beale St, Rudy Williams. ...
