Tenam Puente Dec 13, 2012
If you ever end up in Comitan, the little city on the way from Guatemala border to San Cristobal del Casas, you should check out one of the Maya Ruins in the area. There are quiet few old cities that are protected and partially renovated. Tenam Puente was one of the important fortresses in the area and it is fairly easy to reach it. From Comitan there is one small bus company that takes passengers to that area. There is small village just before the ruins, and if driver knows that there is someone there, he will come and pick you up. At the site there are guards and nice office building. Best thing about these ruins is that there is rarely anyone around, so you can freely roam and explore whole area. All important carving and statues are taken away from this place, but beauty of the old temples, buildings and courts is still very much present.
