Impressive neogothic piece of architecture Oct 18, 2011
Of all the places I visited today in Leon's downtown, this one was definitively the best.

The Templo Expiatorio is a church constructed in neogothic style, very smiliar to the temple of the same name in Guadalajara. I read that this one in Leon is supposed to be the largest temple of its kind in Mexico.

The architecture is of course magnificient. It has actually not been completely finished yet, but it is expected to be finished until 2013. The first stone was set in 1920, near the turbulent times of the Mexican Cristero War.

They also have a crypt section that is the largest of its kind I have ever seen. There's also one in the temple in Guadalajara, but this one has so many rooms and labyrinths that you could almost get lost.

This temple is definitively the only "must" in Leon.
