Temple Bar is in central Dublin, Ireland. It is basically just a giant square and very easy to navigate your way around the cobblestone streets. There are tons of shops where you can find souvenirs and enjoy shopping. Nightlife in Temple Bar is the best though! There are a countless number of restaurants and pubs to have a blast in. It is a huge tourist attraction, so it makes meeting fellow travelers easy!

If you go to temple bar, it can be great craic (translation: "good fun" :-P), but don't expect to see many Irish people there who aren't either just passing though or drunk off their heads. For traditional irish music, there are a few options in that area. There's "plastic paddy" music upstairs in the Oliver St John Gogarty, which is pretty much "Oirish" music (or irish music as nostaglic american tourists who've never been to Ireland before imagine it to be). Have been in there a few times recently with overseas visitors and as far as I know I was nearly the only Irish person in the place. Another option is the Quays bar, which is better then the Sinjin Gogarty but due to the layout of the place is always absolutely packed.

The best option is upstairs in the Palace Bar on Fleet St (head to Temple Bar from Westmoreland st and it's the first pub on your right). I think it's only on thurs, fri and maybe sat nights, but it's as close to a proper old-style Irish trad session as you're going to get in the city center, the musicians just pull up a few stools off to the side and start playing away. is a pretty small venue but is good.

Of course, this is just my opinion as someone who lives nearby.....
