Temperance River State Park Schroeder Reviews
nice hiking trails along a little stream Aug 14, 2005
Temperance River is a bit farher north from Silver Bay, so I only made it there once. But it was beautiful. There are hiking trails all over the place, and again, you can connect to the Superior Hiking Trail here. There is a little waterfall - Hidden Falls - aptly named because you have to peek through rocks to see it. The river has carved a gorge through the park and the gorge is riddled with potholes. Above the falls, the river is shallow and cross-able if you so desire (again, during low water). We did some hiking up river, but didn't really explore the park too much. We never made it to the lake side of the park.
The park also has a campground and picnic area along Lake Superior.
Update 5/14/15 - I have been to Temperance Rive State Park several times since this initial review. For most hiking and river viewing activities, you can park at some pullouts on both sides of Hwy 61. There are some nice trails, but the most popular one goes around an old plunge pool for an extinct waterfall. You then climb up some rock steps, walk along a rock trail and go to some overlooks along the river with the potholes and hidden falls. The paved bike trail crosses the river at the bridge. You can hike to the lake or camp in the campground here. This is a nice place to pull over for a quick hike along the rocks.
