Temburong Vacation Guide

Temburong, the second largest district in Brunei Darussalam. It is separated from the other districts of Brunei by the Limbang river which belongs to Malaysia. The district is accessible by land and water. To get there by land from Brunei, you need to go through the immigration post at Kuala Lurah, enter Limbang (Malaysia) and then re-enter Brunei in Temburong district. The land trip takes about 1 to 2 hours depending on the traffic. Otherwise you can just take a boat (dubbed as Flying coffin for its unusual shape) and get a 45-minute boat ride to get there. You can also enter Temburong from Sabah (East Malaysia) by land.

Temburong is well known among the locals and foreigners alike for its lush virgin natural rainforest habitats of thousans of flora and fauna species with many more left undiscovered. Because of its potential, the government of Brunei Darussalam had decided to turn the whole rainforest as a National park under the protection of the Forestry Department.

There is a number of interesting things to do there such as canopy walking in the heart of the rainforest, staying overnight in the rainforest at the Rainforest Resort, flat-bottom boat ride, visiting the iban people long house in the rurals, or just take a bath in one of the water falls.

Our gracious hosts arranged for us to go on a day trip to Temburong and the Uku National Park shortly after our return from KK. My legs still felt like lead, and movement frequently caused me to emit an exciting series of squeaks, yelps and occasional moans. We were assured however that this trip…
