Awesome view from Quito and surroundings from the cable car - TeleferiQo Jul 16, 2009
Opened in 2005, the TelefériQo (from teleférico and Quito) is cable car, which runs from the edge of the city centre up the east side of Pichincha Volcano to Cruz Loma (lookout). It's one of the highest aerial lifts in the world, rising from 2950m (8850 ft) - 4100m (13,400 ft). The ascent takes 8-10 min. Although you won't climb, the altitude can affect you or at least you will feel it harder to breathe.

At the top there are restaurants, coffee shops and a variety of tourist stores. The highlight is the amazing view of Quito, volcanoes, mountains and surroundings. There are trails for hiking and points where you can take pictures. Due to the high altitude and the wind, it's considerably cooler than the city, so bring a warm jacket. You can also do mountain biking at the top and go down the mountain.

I was lucky it was sunny and not cloudy when I was there, so I got amazing views of the Cotopaxi, Pichincha and other volcanoes.

They offer a free shuttle from the bus stop to the cable car stop.
Prices:
Adults $4.50 ($9 foreigners) - Teenagers $3.00 ($6 foreigners)Children under 10 $2.00 ($4 foreigners) - Over 60s and concessions $2.50 ($5 foreigners).

If you are in Quito, I highly recommend to visit this place and get amazing views of the Andes surrounding Quito

Hello all,Today is my first full day in Quito, and that means it time to check things out.  I am staying in the New Town area, which is great for the tourists but could pretty much be set down in any Latin American city.  I've been told that theÂ…TeleferiQo is an aerial tram that climbs the slopes of the Pichincha Volcano on the western edge of Quito.  It goes to 4,100 metres, and has great views of the city.  I walked towards the area with the idea of getting a taxi.  The first… The Old Town, and Guapulo in Quito.

Hello all, Today I was determined to get to TeleferiQo, the 4,100 metre high tram overlooking Quito.  Also, since I plan of leaving Quito tomorrow, I figured I had to go to La Mitad Del Mundo.  La Mitad Del Mundo is the government tourist…TeleferiQo.  Well, to say the least this turned into a mess.  I ended up waiting for a shuttle for 75 minutes at the bus station, and had to take the bus and a taxi instead.  Once reaching TeleferiQo it started raining, and the top of the tram… Touristy stuff around Quito.

As usual, I woke up early, but the rest of the gang didn't do it so, hehehe. So I took a shower and decided to enjoy the sunny day and go for a walk before having breakfast at the hostel. By the time I left, it was already 8:30am. La Mariscal looks …teleferiqo, while I would go to a mall - how boring... well, I'd go there to look for my big backpack. I want a Colombian brand that I can't find in Lima, but they have stores in Quito. So, I'd go and take… Last full day in Ecuador: looking for a backpack, Old Town and great dinner :)
