None of the people in the fuzziest hostel of NZ were up for a road trip around the South Island (most people had jobs and so on) so I just hired a car and went myself (thanks to the receptionist there for knocking off a few backs from the rental price!). First up I went to Lake Tekapo alongside the Southern Alps, and I get my first view of the snow covered mountains. Pretty! We got up and left as early as possible.  We were heading south/inland but not too far out of town we were stopped by the police who told us that there had been some rock slides and if we took it carefully we could get through as long as we watched for the rocks. It was definately an interesting drive, floods and rocks!  Because of the rain we just kept driving til we felt that we had had enough. The weather was so bad that the roads to the ski fields were closed so we couldn't eve...
