Three doors Feb 03, 2011
Teen Darwaja translates as three doors, and from the appearance, you can see why that is! The doors date from the medieval period, constructed around the fourteenth or fifteenth century. The doors marked one of the entrances to Ahmedabad, and was an obvious political and economic symbol when constructed. These days, the doors are home to a lively market place and constant stream of traffic. I’m amazed that they are not more protected by the authorities, as the pollution and traffic must be damaging it. You will definitely pass this sight if you stroll through the historic heart of Ahmedabad. When and if you do, you will now know its name!
