A boutique hotel like a museum! Jul 29, 2012
Staying here is like experiencing on how to live inside the Tea Factory, however, you have nicer and cleaner lobby, bedrooms and bathrooms. Nuwara Eliya is highlands and this hotel is on the highest altitude of the town, so it's cold and windy, they have heater instead of aircon and they also povide heat packs every night. The room has a fantastic hill view and we are facing the terrace of the hotel. We stay at the Executive Floor but i don't see any difference with the other floors there, i didn't feel any exclusivity except maybe that every night they give us a plate of sushis and sashimis! They do housekeeping TWICE a day, after breakfast and after dinner, we always have a newly-cleaned room! Free WIFI but you need to ask for your password everyday at the Reception.

The bar has wide variety of cocktails and the restaurant has a 5-star quality service and buffet food, except for the Californina Rose' I ordered which tastes like denatured alcohol :P Order other brand of Rose's instead. The SPA is very unexpectedly good, and there's a pool table at the lounge area, but it's not free.

They prepare packed breakfast if you needed to leave hotel earlier than 7am, advise them the night before so they can ready it for you. They have a lot of activities for you to choose from and one of those is Tea Plucking! They will dress you with traditional Sri Lankan clothes and pluck your own tea and show you how tea is made in their mini-factory. The also have little pony named, Joe, but only kids can ride them :P

The hotel which by the name itself, is an old tea factory in the midst of misty mountain of tea estate. It was bult in 1867 and rebuilt by the British engineers in 1938 after the damage caused by WWI. It was closed in 1973 and turned into a hotel in 1996 without any alterations to the exterior.

Today, you can still see the original power engine which they still operate for 30mins everyday for guests to experience how it was like before. The steel are color-coded, green for the original steel works and red for the additions. They still have the narrow railway train carriage which offers guests a unique dining experience.

It sounds like you are staying in an old hotel but actually you are not, the rooms and service still gives you the 5 star modern hotel quality. It is 14kms away from the town coz it's located o top of the highest peak of Nuwara Eliya, so it's one thing to consider as well ;)

Tea Factory Hotel Nuwara Eliya Mar 19, 2012
The hotel design and view was so great and the rooms was so nice, i like it so much, the only think was too bad is the long way distance that it takes from the airport and the 10 Km way which was un-proper road for driving.

6000 ft above the sea and easy you can see the cloud bellow your room, the bathroom shower its exactly as you are stripping to the people in the garden (-_-), complete window...

Tea Factory Hotel Nuwara Eliya Overview

4 Star Property - Situated in the cool climes of Kandapola - A Unique hotel concept, where a tea factory built several decades ago during the British Raj has been converted Into a plush hotel - This most unusual hotel surrounded amidst the misty mountains and the lush tea plantations of the Hill Country, offers a tranquil setting for a relaxing holiday A hotel of character and star-class, set in an emerald teascape 6,800 feet above sea level, only six degrees from the Equator. In the mountain range, which gave the world Pure Ceylon Tea, the hotel began as a factory built in the days of the British Raj. It has been converted so that much of the original style and machinery remains a reminder of the past in perfect blend with innovations of the present. To stay at the Tea Factory is to experience a hotel like none other. Step into its reception, and you are where the factory*s leaf drying process was carried out. The atrium is latticed with steel and at its top; two giant wooden fans capped with brass remind you that the bedrooms are on floors that used to be the withering lofts. The tea packing room is now the hotel*s popular bar. Where tea was sifted and graded is the hotel*s fine restaurant of class - its modern kitchen used to be the engine room. The cuisine is definitely *my cup of tea*, whatever your preference. The withering lofts have been transformed into 57 bedrooms of cozy, carpeted comfort. Wood is the main material used, with doors, shelves and cupboards *plenty of them* left in their natural colors. The windows remain as they were in their original square wooden frames and these provide a glorious view from any bedroom or bathroom. Each bathroom has a bathtub and shower. Every bedroom is heated and has a built-in dressing table with wrap around mirrors, and beds designed for a perfect night*s sleep. The view from the rooms at the front of the hotel is a wonderful panorama of tea and at its rear; a peaceful pastoral scene of hamlets, hills and forest, as well as more tea meets your gaze.
