Quaint Oriental architecture in the heart of Moscow Jun 08, 2008
This is litteraly one of the most unusual buildings of the old Moscow. This historical tea & coffee store got his absolutely unique front in the Chinese style in the late 19th century. The company of Perlov family - successful tea merchants of that time - decided to re-build their office and store to to draw the attention of the Chinese ambassador that was expected to come to Moscow for the coronation of Nikolay II, the last Russian emperor, in 1896. They've been competing with another family of merchants for the right to host the ambassador in their house. In the end of the day, they've lost this competition but the house became the great example of the effective retail advertising. It didn't lost its function even during the Soviet era and was recently renovated by the efforts of Perlov's descendants. Even if you're not in the mood for some rare and expensive tea, having a look at this store while browsing across the Moscow city center wouldn't be a waste of your time.
