Te Puia Rotorua Reviews
Cultural Jan 08, 2010
We headed for Rotorua for the day, fully intending only to check out the 'free stuff'. However, when we went to the geothermal area around town, it was okay but as we had seen the big hot pools and the gueyser from our hotel room last visit, we knew we had to head to Te Puia as my sister and brother in law had not seen them.
We paid the entrance fee which entitled us to walk around the area at our leisure or wait for the next guided tour.
Our time was limited so we decided to take the tour. It is worth it as of course you get all the local cultural information.
We did leave part way through though, which you can do at any time.
It is broken up into different areas and would take quite a while to wander around properly. We went into the Kiwi house but didn't see any.
Then we went to the bubbling mud area. We laughed because we then were able to look at where we had stayed on our last visit.
The gueyser was spraying and getting a bit bigger but seemed to be taking forever. As my brother in law had already returned to the entrance as he wasn't feeling well, we chose to finish our wandering but I kept looking back at the gueyser. Yes, finally it blew hard. At least my sister was able to witness it. At Te Puia, there is of course some where to eat and drink, and a souvenier shop.
You can also pay extra for the 'Maori Cultural Experience' which we didn't.
