Te Lee Hong Restaurant Dec 04, 2008
The Te Lee Hong Restaurant is a popular eatery with the locals and rapidly catching on with travelers as well. The thick menu is printed in Khmer, Chinese, and English to offer a full range of Cambodian and Chinese food. The wide variety of meals are offered in small or large portions. Prices are slightly higher than many local eateries but the food is good. Tempted to try the frog, I only sampled several pork dishes, finding the sweat & sour to be my favorite.

The restaurant is located across the street - and just past - the main market and next-door to the Kompong Som Angkor Beer Distributor - where all beer from the brewery arrives in town for delivery to all the other restaurants and bars. The Te Lee Hong has ice cold mugs of fresh Angkor for 2,500 Rials (about 62 cents U.S.). It has become a popular place for both travelers and expats (mostly Germans) to gather each afternoon at outdoor tables to enjoy a half dozen or so of the brews, munch free peanuts, and watch Cambodia roll by on busy Makara Street. By six-thirty the foreigners move on and locals fill the place for their evening meal.

The Te Lee Hong is an ideal place in Sihanoukville to relax with a cold fresh beer, mingle with other foreigners, or enjoy a fine meal. The place is easily recognized by the array of huge red, white, and blue Angkor signs marking the corner building.

I had caught up with my German friends sipping sidewalk beers at the Te Lee Hong restaurant. The four Bavarians spent six months a year in Sihanoukville. For the past three years we had met up at the Te Lee Hong, just across the street from the market. I had hoped the German doctor was in town but he didn… Visit to a Cambodian Clinic

…hotel is centrally located across the street from the bus station and is within five minutes walking distance to numerous bars, restaurants, banks, convenience stores, and businesses including the central market.   Across the road from the central market is the Te Lee Hong restaurant. German friends from years past gather there each afternoon to sit at outside tables and enjoy 50-cent mugs of beer… Sihanoukville Town

As I mentioned in previous travelogs, the Sihanoukville Distributor for Angkor Beer is right next door to the Te Lee Hong Restaurant by the main market.   For an hour or two each afternoon the small warehouse bursts with activity when a big red truck backs up to the building. Tarps are untied and drawn back to reveal hundreds of cases of the brew… Angkor - the Beer

By late afternoon I walked to the Te Lee Hong restaurant. The streets leading there were lined with merchants - displaced by a fire that burned the entire old market to the ground sometime in January. Though I had walked through that market many times, I hadn't realized how massive the old place… Back to Sihanoukville

As last year and the year before, I asked the owner of the Te Lee Hong restaurant how much she wanted for the red Angkor Beer poster hanging on one of the stained walls. It was actually more a banner than poster - made of a sturdy plastic-like fabric. It measured about four feet high and one and a half… The Angkor Poster
