There is a lot of taxi in Bangkok, the same as in Beijing. You will not have any difficulties to hail the taxi almost from everywhere in Bangkok. The best thing is that the driver normally can speak English eventhough it is limited. They are also familiar with the destinations because perhaps many tourists always go to the same tourism objects.
The taxi is used metered. If the driver does not turn on the meter, just tell him you want to stop and get out immediately. That's what we did when we jumped into a taxi that the driver tried not to use the meter. No bargain. Otherwise, they will cheat on you especially if you do not have any idea how far the place is from where you are now. It is a bit difficult to find a taxi to go to a place where normally there is always traffic jam. Especially, if it gets closer to rush hour, it can take half an hour for you until you find a taxi that want to take you as the passenger. The traffic jam is really a headache. Thus, it is reasonable if the driver does not want to accept you and he/she just leave you whenever you mention the place. |

The streets were busy with people coming and going with many people on those darn motorbike taxis you see everywhere in Thailand. It was hotter as anything this day and we were sweating quite badly just walking down the street. We had to walk a bit farther then we wanted to because there were city workers blocking the street… A sobering day in Bangkok's poor neighborhoods |
