Taking a Taxi in LA? Mar 02, 2010
So, you are fresh out of the airport in Los Angeles, California (could be LAX, Burbank, Long Beach or another other major airport) and you want to take a cab.
WAIT! Hold on there! Whoa big fellah!
BEFORE you jump in to an eagerly awaiting taxi cab in front of a terminal or in fact, ANY place in the city of Los Angeles area, heed this very important bit of information. Not doing so could cost you at best, big money or at worst, your safety.
Prior to engaging in any sort of transaction, look for the City of Los Angeles Seal of the Department of Transportation bearing the words TAXICAB placed upon the exterior door of the vehicle. If you don't see one, no matter what the driver says, don't get in! The ones without the seal are known as "bandit" taxicabs and have no legal authorization to operate in the LA. If you get overcharged or harassed or hurt, there will be no legal method available to you for restitution. The car may not even have any insurance if there is an accident to make sure you look for the seal BEFORE you get in and start your vacation in LA LA Land.
