Tsambika Beach, Greece
Taverna Maria Tsambika Beach Reviews
Maybe the best tavern on the Rhodes island Sep 14, 2011
We discovered Taverna Maria on the way to Tsambika Beach and because we haven't found what we're looking for in Archangelos we decided to give it a try.
When we came in Maria welcomed us already in german with "danke, viele viele danke" (thank you, many many thanks for coming). Her warm smile and her hospitality touched us immediately. Her son, who's the waiter, told us to choose a place. We found one in the wonderful garden since it was still warm at night.
The menu is written in greek, german, english and french (if I remember right) and offers dishes from the grill like souvlaki and liver or more home cooked meals like lamb and goat dishes.
First night we thought we better choose something conservative like souvlaki, greek salad, tzaziki and meat balls in tomato sauce. Every dish was fresh cooked and super yummy. Additional to that we had a red wine for me and a beer for Klaus.
We were too full to order a desert but Maria brought 2 ouzo and a plate of melons (for free), additional to that she invited us to choose some ice cream for free which we declined because we would have explode like a balloon then ;)
All in all we've been to Tavern Maria 5 times during our 1 week stay and no matter what we've eaten everything was delicious. One night Klaus wanted to try the goat dish but it was out and Maria cooked one for him the other night :)
After the second night we belonged to her family already and we were welcomed with hugs and kisses :) Last night, when it was time to say good bye, her son hurried into the kitchen to bring us a salad bowl as a present. Klaus and I were sooooo touched by this, we even had a tear in our eyes :O
If you're going to Rhodes some day don't miss to visit Maria.
