Tavern on Grand Reviews

Best walleye in the Twin Cities Apr 15, 2008
Tavern on Grand is known for its walleye (fish), which comes grilled, deep-fried or blackened. Walleye is the Minnesota state fish and is a popular catch on the lakes of northern Minnesota (because it is so delicious!). Indeed, their walleye may have been the best tasting walleye I've had. Their "deep-fried" walleye is a little misleading. It has a lighter breading with a slight cajon seasoning and doesn't feel heavy or greasy. I had the "Shore Lunch" for $10 which is only available during the lunch hours, but is a smaller meal that still includes a salad and roll, fillet of walleye, baby red potatoes and steamed vegetables. Yummy.

The decor of the restaurant is northwoods/log cabin feel complete with a fish aquarium built in one of the walls. The restaurant has a cozy, welcoming feel to it. Parking is a little difficult to find right on Grand Avenue, but there is a parking lot behind the building. The website has the menu on it and most meals are $8-15. They also have burgers, sandwiches, pasta, chicken and ribs if you don't care for walleye. But if you thought you didn't like walleye, you should try theirs and you might change your mind!

The only part I didn't like was that my herbed potatoes were not very flavorful. The walleye had delicious breading and light seasoning and even the steamed veggies were seasoned. But if that's my only complaint, that's pretty minor! Oh, and the ceasar salad and walleye is really good, too.

After you've finished eating, take a drive along Grand Avenue and Summit Avenue and take in all the beautiful, large, old homes.
