Tatari 53 Tallinn Reviews
The Tatari 53 hotel Sep 06, 2013
We followed the gps going towards the hotel and then it told us to turn off from the main street leading into the center of Tallinn. Just after we turned the gps told us we had reached our destination. We had reach our destination? Where is the hotel? I can’t see the hotel from the street so we park at one of the empty parking lots at the street and start searching for number 53. We are currently parked in front of number 64 so I guess the hotel must be somewhere on the other side of the street. But I still can’t see any building looking like a hotel.
After searching for a little bit I see a sign for the hotel inside a courtyard. There is actually a small sign outside at the road but we had missed this when we drove into the street. We drive into the courtyard where the hotel is located at the back so it isn’t actually facing the main streets. The other buildings around the courtyard looks a bit like a mix of antiquated office buildings or possible some light production which might have been going on here. There is a big parking lot in the courtyard but most of the parking lots seem to be reserved by some of the people working in the office buildings.
So we leave the car at a random parking lot and then walk down the stair to the reception in the basement. We ask at the reception where we can park - and they say we can park along a wall - there is a no parking sign at the wall but they say we should just ignore it and park at the wall. So we move the car and get the luggage from the car and get to the room. It’s on the third floor but there is a lift for the lazy to get up there.
The room is basic just with a bed and television and there is a window with a view of the courtyard. So even though we are very close to one of the main roads leading to the center of Tallinn there is hardly any road noise heard in our room. The bathroom isn’t the best the shower is next to the toilet and it isn’t fully sealed off. Hence the shower tends to be fairly wet after a shower.
In the morning the breakfast is served in a room next to the reception. The breakfast buffet is located in an old basement. It looks like a very old basement with some cave like features. The breakfast table is mainly placed next door in a room which has a bit more natural light coming in than the breakfast buffet room.
After breakfast we are ready to go and explore the city a bit more and ask if it is ok to leave the car at the parking lot until we get back. The receptionist says ok so we take advantage of having a safe parking lot and make the fairly short walk to the city.

The location of the hotel is not perfect – it is a bit of a walk from the old town, crossing busy street, and difficult to find when you drive there even with the car GPS. The GPS recognise the hotel address – unfortunately the hotel building itself is hidden inside another building like a courtyard with mix of other office buildings next door.
Once we find the hotel building, it is okay to navigate to and from the old town and the hotel provide free car park as well. Unfortunately nothing much to see around the hotel since it is more like an industrial area and no restaurants nearby.
The hotel reception was friendly and our booking was ready and she inform us where to park the car safely for the hotel guests, as there were no parking sign nearby notify about the hotel parking and we had park randomly at the car park near the hotel. Once we parked the car and get our luggage, we head inside again to our room which located at the third floor. We use elevator which is located near the hall way not far from the reception area.
Our room is quite small and very basic for the price. It cost €50 per night for two people with breakfast. Not much furniture inside and I find it is a bit dirty to my liking. The room probably clean but it just look dirty and I ended cleaning everything with wet tissue.
Not much space for two people inside the room and I feel kind of suffocated – it is okay for a night but not more since you could find better hotel with the same price range.
There is old television and window in the room with a view toward the courtyard and luckily the room was quite at night time and we could not hear any noise from our next door neighbour or from the street below.
The bathroom is really simple and basic, very small and the hotel water not work properly – hot and cold change rapidly without touching the shower button and the whole floor get wet after finish shower. The drainage was not good – the floor was practically flooding after shower.
Towel limited to one only per person and it was very thin and well used, soap and shampoo also limited.
The breakfast was included in the room rate and it serve in the room next to the reception area which looks quite nice like some sort of cave look alike as it is in an old basement.
The food was okay, normal standard like in other hotel in Balkan areas – boil eggs, salami, cheese, ham, bread, juices, coffee and tea.
After finish breakfast we check out from the hotel and go to explore the old city again and we ask the reception if it is ok to leave the car at the parking lot until we get back. The receptionist says it is no problem and we leave the car and walk to the old town.
