Taste of Texas Restaurant Houston Reviews
Steak in a Texas Setting Oct 02, 2009
Texas is known for its cattle ranches and its steaks. If you are visiting Houston, a reliable choice for delicious steaks is the Taste of Texas Restaurant. This family owned restaurant has been in business since 1977 and has a loyal customer following.
With meals served in a rustic setting decorated with Texas memorabilia, this restaurant is extremely popular. Menu items range from a 6 ounce center cut filet to the largest steak, a 32 ounce Porterhouse. The Porterhouse can easily be shared with two people (possibly even three).
For those who don't like steaks, tasty alternatives are available including jalapeno stuffed shrimp (one of my favorites) and pecan crusted chicken.
All dinner meals include an all-you-can-eat salad bar which is a meal in itself. The salad bar has a huge amount of choices and several types of bread and butter. I am usually full before the main meal even arrives!
The desserts are divine with many options to choose from. The best seller is the Snicker cheesecake, which is delicious but extremely rich. I always have to take half the slice to go.
Prices are geared for special occasions and range from roughly $30 to $50 per person, depending on the order. Steaks are much more than say chicken or burgers.
I always take visitors to the Taste of Texas. The food is excellent, the service is outstanding, the dress is casual and it's nice to see all the historical artifacts throughout the restaurant. First time visitors are given a Texas welcome with a complimentary bandana tied around their neck.
There is one big downside to this restaurant, however. Unfortunately, the Taste of Texas does not take reservations. Plan to go early or during off hours or you will be waiting in line a while. I've never known this restaurant not to be busy. We went early last year for Christmas Eve and easily waited an hour.
If you are visiting Houston, I recommend the Taste of Texas. The food is excellent and the Texas artifacts make the trip worthwhile. Just be aware that you may be waiting in line.
