Well Im off on a bit of a trip! Having met up with Tom in the Kings Street Backpackers in Melbourne we have decided on a trip to Tasmania for a few days - booked flights for $160 return and have headed off to the airport. Only just managed to get there in time for the flight and after some frantic checking in we hopped on a Jetstar flight for 45 mins to the Natural State of Australia.
I've had a soft spot for Tasmania ever since learning about the existance and extinction of the Thylacine -...

Although we were in Tassie for basically 2.5 days, we were able to do quite a bit. Traveling with parents is quite a different affair filled with less exercise, more food. Not necessarily a bad combination in small quantities.
On our first day, we went to the Trowanna Wildlife park where we got to pet a koala, see quolls eating dead kangaroo, feed (live) kangaroos, watch Tassie devils fighting for food, and see a wombat. Not the most "naturalist" experience, but it was a go...

Australia's best kept secret. Spent a week driving from Hobart west to Strahan, up to Cradle Mountain, Devonport, Launceston, Swansea (stayed at the charming Piermont Resort, recommended to me by Steve Irwin), and ended back in Hobart.

From Feb to Sep 06 I visited every country except Paraguay and the Guianas (no offence to Paraguayans!). To see an overview, click on the photo to the left then "View Trip Summary". Highlights were Patagonia (Arg, Chile), Cordillera Blanca (Peru) and kitesurfing in Is. Margerita, Venezuela!

I love Tasmania. I feel so energized when I visit there. Beautiful scenery, friends folks, great wine and food. Couldn't ask for any more.

A few pics from my first trip to australia, with my brother Justin. We spent some time in Hong Kong on the way there & the parents came out for a holiday when we got to Singapore. Don't count on the dates to be right by the way!
