We had a river cruise booked in this morning that would take us up the Gordon River and into wonderful world heritage rainforest area. This cruise was probably the highlight of my entire Tasmanian trip.
The cruise departed from Strahan wharf and headed out towards Hells Gates, the rough and treacherous narrow passage named by the convicts on their way to Sarah Island. Our captain, informed us it is not always possible to pass through Hells Gates. However, we were in luck today and managed th...

Our first pit stop today was the Taroona Shot Tower. I visited here a couple of months ago and wrote a blog about it then, so won't write a lot about it here, except to say, dad climbed to the top while I waited at the base and took a few photos.

My new year rang in with a burst of fireworks and kisses at the Taste of Tasmania. Each year for a week after Christmas, some of Tasmania’s finest food and beverage providers get together to serve up a culinary feast at the docks near Salamanca. New Years Eve is a celebration, with a selection of musical entertainers and the night culminating in the midnight firework display that has all watching oooh-ing and ahhh-ing with each explosion. This year at midnight, I was one of those people. &n...

The sun had only just risen when I set out this morning on my day trip to the north of the state. I wasn’t sure how far I would travel, I was happy to see where the day would take me.
The Midlands (or Heritage) Highway runs right through the centre of Tasmania from Launceston in the north to Hobart in the south. Along the way is a smattering of quaint little towns with some fascinating history stories to tell. The history lessons shall begin shortly.
This group of photos I took f...

I love flying and one of the things I love most about flying is what I see out the window of the plane. This is some of what I saw on my way from Hobart to Sydney, some very pretty scenery. I flew out of Hobart where the clouds streaked across the sky, and I got a great views of Mount Wellington with Hobart spread out along its base and along the shores of the Derwent River. I couldn’t quite see my place, but could see the bay near my home as well as the building where I w...

While spending two weeks in Hobart, Tasmania and Sydney working, I decided to use my only day off on a daytrip to Bruny Island, south of Hobart. I joined the group in Hobart and by bus and ferry I arrived at the island some hours later. We drove around the Island, and also went on a three-hour boat-trip before heading back to Hobart.Fantastic nature and animals; dolphins, seals, a whale and beautiful birds..

Last day in Hobart for a while. Packed up the house :( and moved everything to various storage places. Hobart is awesome but need to get away, so the next 6 months will be an interesting challenge.Met Tash's friend Nell at the Sydney airport, and bought ourselves a travelling companion - a small wombat who has adopted the name Arnie (in honour of the governor of our first destination, California) and will be aiming to be photographed at as many tourist attractions as possible over...

Monday September 24th:
We flew into Launceston and stayed at the Country Club Villas. My mom and I went horseback riding after we ate lunch. We didn’t do very much. We just relaxed.
Tuesday September 25th:
We went down to Hobart. We first stopped in Ross which is a Historic town. We walked through there and saw the Ross Bridge and the church that was there.
We then went to my favourite place of the trip, CADBURY CHOCOLATE FACTORY. We took the tour to see how the chocolate was ma...

Hi everybody,
In my opinion Tasmania is one of the best islands in the word. Why? Because it has magnificent landscape protected by World Heritage listing, spectacular waterways, peaks, beaches, fauna, a lot of animals (specially kangaroos), bridges, etc, and you can visit all the island in only 5 or 7 days.
You can lodge in many backpackers and the rates are very low, for example 10 euros per night. If you prefer you can stay in a hotel you will pay over 25-30 for a 3* one. Resta...

There is nothing better for an Aussie coming home from a foreign country than jumping on a Qantas flight, with the good old Aussie accent and knowing the next time you set foot on solid ground it will be Aussie ground.
The flight home was a typical long haul flight squashed into the rear of a 747 aircraft. Jacqui, Karen and I sat three in a row with me on the aisle (thank goodness, the others were playing piggy in the middle). We had on demand video and all wanted to watch “Kenny”, a ver...

The last couple of weeks in oz have been fantastic. Lots of great people to meet and amazing things to see. Australia is truly beautiful. There are just endless white beaches everywhere it seems. I spent my last day in Byron Bay heading up to check out Nimbin and the surrounding area. Nimbin is a crazy little hippie village where everyone seems to be smoking pot...it's a little village that never left the 60s. Interesting to see.
Next, I headed up to Brisb...

I wandered up to the Cenotaph (war memorial) today where I thought the botanical gardens were. Though unless I had the wrong place, it was little more than a wide, sweeping space of grass over-looking the port and water. Still, it was a nice place to get some peace and quiet. Sometimes you miss being alone as a traveler. Although you're always alone in a sense, you are always surrounded with people and it can be nice to be completely isolated sometimes, especially in the fresh air...
I then...

I flew into Launceston Airport which isn't actualy in Launceston so when I got into my hired Toyota Yaros and headed off, I was a little disorientated and went into Launceston instead of towards Deloraine. I hate getting taken places I don't wish to go and this was frustrating me a bit, but I managed to work out where I was exactly and turn my car around and headed south for a little while before heading west towards Deloraine where I thought I would stay the night. When I got there, I went t...
