Tarte Flambée Alsace Reviews
Tarte Flambée - A Bite of Alsatian Cuisine Aug 26, 2011
Tarte flambée is a very special dish served in Alsace which you shouldn’t miss out on when visiting this region of France.
The traditional tarte flambée is a thin bread dough with fromage frais or crème fraîche, onions and lardoons on top baked in the flames. But there are modified variations you can choose from too: tarte flambée with added gruère cheese or munster cheese, a tarte with mushrooms instead of lardons, or the sweet tarte with sliced apples and cinnamon flambéed with Calvados for dessert.
The Alsatians love their crispy, hot tarte flambée made in a stone baking oven. And I also recommend this local delicacy. I like the idea of this tasty, easy to vary recipe. And there is nothing better than trying all the different tartes in a cosy, rustic Alsatian restaurant where they serve this speciality freshly baked.
You can order a tarte flambée in many places (but sometimes only at certain days) for about 5.00 to 7.00€ each.
For me, savouring a tarte flambée is a culinary delight combined with a touch of Alsatian originality and sociability!
