Cheap and flavourful yoghurt for a cheap price...who knew?! Jul 28, 2013
Living in the Pacific NW has its advantages in terms of a healthier lifestyle, better quality food and lots of outdoor options. Along with it though comes the dull weather, and we're often crying our hearts out for summer. That is, until summer comes! And then it starts to get so unseasonably hot, that days of hanging around downtown or hiking tend to get too tiring, the constant sunshine in your face and no immediate respite.
Suffice it to say, you found your respite in this lil haven. For yoghurt lovers, for chocolate lovers, and for junk food lovers, this is the Utopia of them all, and at a very cheap price! Everything is self service - the host walks you around the various flavoured yoghurt machines along the walls, with 3-4 size cups (or you could ask for a cone), and then there's the centre of the room with gazillions of toppings. I saw everything from the junk variety (read Hersheys) to what seemed like healthy (read roasted edamame beans). And it's unlimited. Although of course, there's only so much you can put on your cup before it starts to overflow.
And then you take your cup upto the counter, the cashier weighs it for you, and you're on your merry way to, well eating it.
The place, albeit small is very colourful. Walls painted with all kinds of Hallmark/Oprah type sayings, there's a pillar where people and leave stickies of the experience they had here, and mostly, there's this really warm camaraderie that runs through the shop - friendly assistants and generally a very friendly crowd.
To anyone visiting Portland downtown, especially in the summer, I'd highly recommend this place. It's noisy and crowded alright, but when you've got that much warmth and so many chocolate toppings, how could you go wrong?!
