Tarapoto is known as the City of the Palm Trees. It's located in the Rainforest and rises in the middle of the jungle. The people are very friendly and are always smiling. Just be prepared for hot weather and enjoy the nature.

I left for Yurimaguas today, at first waiting for a collectivo van but
with only 5 passengers waiting around for the 13-person conveyance to
leave, it could have taken hours, so the few of us there decided to go
to the other terminal and see if there were a pickup truck or car going
to Yurimaguas instead. It turned out we had a lot of options and there
was one pickup filling up that we got into. We were more fortunate

We arrived to Tarapoto around 630am. Tarapoto is a nice little sweaty hot town where everyone rides scooters or motorcycles and there are a ton of mototaxis. There are very few cars out and about which is cool. We went into the center to grab some breakfast and take care of some travel business. Unfortunately, we recieved the sad news that the Renda´s beloved dog, Holly, passed away a few days before. She was a wonderful lovely dog and she lived a very long full life. She will be missed. ...

Hello all,
Fresh from my 18-1/4 hour bus trip from Piura, I had tuk-tuk driver drop me off at the LAN Airlines office. It didn't open for another couple of hours, so I started to look for a hotel. I found one down near the square that had A/C and free breakfast. I got a few hours of sleep before heading to the office. There was a wait of about 45 minutes in the office, and when I got to the counter my conversation was hampered by my limited spanish.
