Tanzania Overview

The largest country in East Africa, nestled between Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Congo, Zambia, Malawi, and Mozambique, and with plenty of coastlines as well, Tanzania is a country of extremities. Packed with some of Africa's most recognizable locations, such as Mount Kilimanjaro and Lake Victoria or the Serengeti, the country is one of Africa's most popular tourist destinations. National parks and majestic views of planet Earth are par for the course when visiting Tanzania, and it's impossible to come to this country without feeling some sense of awe at just how epic the views are.

With such a range of landscapes available, a traveler can go from sampling the sandy beaches of the eastern coast to exploring the slopes of the mountains or taking a safari through the Serengeti Plains within a few hours. There are various rock formations and art sites that detail the past history of the country scattered throughout the hillside, such as Kolo-Kondoa, while Lake Manyara and Tarangire National Parks offer some majestic views over the country, as well as some of the best wildlife expeditions available.

From the beaches of Zanzibar to hiking up Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania offers many of the most amazing adventures on the planet. Transportation will depend on whether or not you're in a major city or in an outlying village, and the same holds true for accommodations. Driving is not recommended, as the roads are far from what most Westerners have come to expect, and traffic conditions are less than ideal. The country itself is a vast landscape of national parks, and most people who come to Tanzania do so because of the safaris and the chance to experience some of Earth’s most amazing landscapes. This is definitely an adventure destination, although it's just as accessible to first-timers as it is to veterans, provided the proper planning is done. Be sure to bring plenty of bottled water, and be expected to experience corruption from the police if you happen to be stopped for anything. The best course of action is simply play dumb.
