Tankwa Karoo National Park Reviews
Aug 25, 2007
August/September is the time in to go and check out the wild flowers along the west coast of South Africa.
The Tankwa Karoo National Park is a relatively recently opened park. There are currently 2 chalets in the entire park, and they are building an additional 3. These are not currently advertised on the website, which says that you need to stay outside of the park.
The park focuses on flowers and birds maily, although we did see a few bat-eared foxes, tortoises and small game too. It is about 4-5 hours drive from Cape Town (about 170km from Ceres on gravel roads).
The flowers is the main reason to go though. And they are magnificent. It is a great break away from city life. From each of the chalets, you cannot see any of the others, which is great. You get uninterupted views of natural semi-desert scenery with the wild flowers in full bloom, orange, yellow, purple, red and white.
It is great value, something completely different and a great, relaxing break.
