Tango Hostel Cordoba Reviews
Tango Hostel Jun 05, 2016
Tango Hostel is probably the most overrated place (rated on hostel sites) I have been in Argentina. It is located a bit far from the bus station (some 12 blocks or so) but only few blocks from the center and bar-clubs area. I arrived to it one gloomy morning, knocked on the door and very pleasant lady opened it and let me leave my things in the garage area until check in time comes along. Hostel is a three story kind of modern building with natural wood staircase that winds up to the second floor. As soon as you enter you are in the kind of living room area which has couple sofas and big TV. Internet is very good around this area.
Reception is just a little table and you can rarely see someone sitting there.
There is good amount of travel books and offers that you can find around tables on the first and second floor. Cordoba as a city does not have much of the museums or art spaces aside of few churches and Jesuit monastery, which is the only place really worth seeing. Actually to be honest, there are few other churches that are a bit different, but how many churches can you see… Town has few shopping streets which sell mostly cheap goods and two small mercados. I covered all museums and only Bellas Artes was worth my time. It is located in beautiful mansion and has few floors of mostly Argentinean artists.
Hostel has breakfast included, but it is totally pathetic experience. You are given piece of bread with some spread and dulce de leche, banana and there is hot water for tea and coffee. It is way better not to waste your meal on whatever, but to go to one of the pastry shops that have much better choice and better coffee… People smoke outside of the kitchen area and all smoke goes inside. Good luck with breathing.
Dorm room was so stinky that I had to ask for another one, and then for another one, until I got in the 10 people dorm that was relatively ok. Beds are shaking a bit, but it is survivable if you are on the bottom. Lockers are HORRIBLE. They just got some kind of drawer box, with 6-7 drawers and added small hooks to it in attempt to make it “secure”. And, you are supposed to put your valuables in that?!? It is just a DUMB thinking or lack of thinking.
There is another “pearl” of thinking process in this hostel. Some doors on the bathroom/showers don’t have lock, but there is a small chain that allows someone to open the door but not more than 10cm… Well, just to explain it a bit better, imagine that you are taking shower, someone opens the door, looks at your bare ass and figures out that bathroom is occupied… Maybe simple lock was too ordinary for them. Bathrooms are also moldy and smelly. Price was around 12$ which is bit above the average.
Staff is trying to be helpful, but they need some experience.
