Tangata @ The Bowers Museum Santa Ana Reviews
YUMMY CAFE FOOD Aug 10, 2008
We ate here after the terracotta warriors exhibit. it is a spacious and bright eating area. you can sit outside or inside. we all shared an appetizer, Crispy garlic chicken wontons with mango habernero sweet & sour.
i ordered the Free-range chicken “cheese steak”—garlic marinated chicken, pan-seared wild mushrooms, roasted shiseido peppers, black pepper mayo and aged white Cheddar served with Tangata garlic fries.
WOW very tender and juicy and garlic fries was perfectly garlicy flavored.
mum ordered 2 dishes, Kurobuta pork “Cuban”—slow roasted Kurobuta pork, thin sliced Pullman ham, Swiss cheese, yellow mustard and dill pickles served with sweet potato fries & Terracotta Caesar salad with tender romaine hearts, toasted sesame seeds and crispy wonton strips with Parmesan vinaigrette.
WOW the salad was amazing howver no anchovies. mum sandwich is the best. you can't go wrong with kurobuta pork. one of the best sweet potato fries.
john ordered the The “Emperor Burger” —Grilled Angus patty with caramelized onion, vine-ripened tomato, Bibb lettuce, garlic aïoli and white Cheddar served with Tangata garlic fries.
WOW for a burger that is medium well. it was not bad. i would ordered it medium rare.
ashley ordered the Ahi tuna burger—grilled ahi tuna patty with soya onions, wasabi aïoli, oven-roasted tomatoes,
onion sprouts and marinated seaweed salad served with Tangata garlic fries.
this was rated poorly. the tuna was fully cooked and it was dry.
Tangata (or "mankind" in the tribal Maori language of New Zealand) features Southwestern decor enclosed by glass walls and a ceiling framed with stuccoed beams and large windows to allow ambient light to illuminate the main dining area. Located in the Bowers museum's Mission-style courtyard, the 160-seat restaurant dedicates half of its available seating to alfresco dining on two large patio areas. The patio area opens into the mission style courtyard that is perfect for romantic weddings or evening receptions. Tangata is open solely for lunch Tuesdays through Sundays, the restaurant serves a diverse menu of California cuisine "colored" with Joachim Splichal's award-winning French signature style.
In addition to a variety of main course salads and Splichal's trademark "soup of yesterday -- always better the next day," the menu features appetizers such as marinated bay scallops, grilled jumbo asparagus and taquitos with shredded chicken; sandwiches including a bacon-chicken club and one-half pound angus-beef burger; main courses such as braised lamb shank with creamy polenta, shrimp frittata, pepper-roasted Atlantic salmon and top sirloin beefsteak; and a number of homemade desserts. And for children, Tangata offers a selection of sandwiches and pasta dishes.
Bowers museum offers a beautiful and historic setting for your event. The courtyard can accomodate up to 400 seated and 600 for a buffet.
