Beautiful Temple on the sea Jul 29, 2013
Tanah Lot temple located around 30 Km west side of Denpasar town, and about 11 Km of south side of Tabanan town.

The temple was built on the rock with 3 acre size.

This temple is very famous with spectacular view of sunset.

The word of Tanah Lot is consisted of two words that are Tanah word interpreted as a reef looking like gili or isle. Lot or Lod word has meaning the sea.

So Tanah Lot means the small island floating on the sea.

Legend has it that the temple was built by one of the last Brahman priests to arrive in Bali from Java, name Sanghyang Nirantha.

At that time, the area's holy leader, Bendesa Beraben, jealous when his followers joined the newcomer, ordered the Hindu saint to leave.

Using his magical powers, Nirantha left by simply moving the rock upon which Tanah Lot is built from the land into the sea, changing his scarf into the sacred snakes that still guard the temple from the bad influence.

Later, Bendesa Beraben converted wholeheartedly to Nirantha's teachings.

Only Hindu devotees may actually climb the temple stairway and enter the grounds

The whole site is well-maintained, commercial activities keep its peaceful isolation, charm and holiness. The tacky souvenir stands are outside the park, and if you are not intend to buy anything, just walk and ignore the souvenir people.

Plenty of restaurants and cafe up the hill across from the temple.

Tanah Lot is one of the important directional temples in Bali. The temple is located on a rock just offshore. It is said to be the work of revered 15th century Hindu priest Nirartha and forms an important element of Balinese spiritualism and mythology.

This is an extremely popular tourist destination and the whole area is often very busy indeed, especially in the late afternoons, pre-sunset.

Once you have fought your way through the souvenir vendors to the beach, you will see the magnificent temple perched on a rock just a few metres offshore. There is a footpath to the raised cliff area just to the south from where the views of the temple and the sunset behind it are outstanding.

'Great view at Tanah Lot' Oct 10, 2012
From Bedugul we went to Tanah Lot Temple by private car, which approximately 2 hours drive West, located in the seaside village of Beraban region, district of Kediri, Tabanan regency. The distance is about 30 km to the west of the city of Denpasar and about 11 km south of the town of Tabanan, or about 43 kilometers from the tourist area of Kuta.

Tanah Lot Temple is a 2 part complexs of temples the main attraction is built on a rock formation off the shore, The word Tanah "land" is defined as a rock, "Lot" or "Lod" means sea, hence the name Tanah Lot (land in the sea) it can be reached within a few minutes by foot, because the distance is only about 100 meters from the beach, where the sea water has receeded. A short distance hill walk to the north the other Temple is situated on the top of a cliff jutting into the sea. This cliff temple is connect with the land and shaped like a curved bridge. Here there are two small temples together, the bridge is high above the sea...and not for the faint of heart. Tanah Lot temple is part of Dang heaven and a sea temple shrine guardian deity of the sea. Around the cliff face in small cracks sometimes there are striped snakes that are tame and trusted by the local community and are seen as the temple guards.

Below and to the west of the temple there is also a freshwater spring and can be seen when the sea water receeds. Fresh water which is water sacred to Hindus. The presence of the springs became one of the considerations when this place was chosen as the location of the temple.

The uniqueness of Tanah Lot Temple makes this a main tourist attraction in Bali, that offers natural beauty dueing the day and also Breathtaking Sunsets. At certain times of the year when the sun is sinking further to the north, where the red ball of the sun will be right, views through cliff holes can be viewed, these views make like a tired eye of a looking at the world.

Other fasilities here are: a Restaurant, Cafe and a Craft Market also Car Parking.

A must see Temple in Bali Apr 12, 2012
One of the must-visit temple in Bali. Location is quite far from the center of the crowd Bali (Kuta and surrounding areas), need to rent a car or motorcycle.

There are 2 options for the time to come to this temple, morning or afternoon. In the morning, the temple is not accessible due to high tide but you will get a good photograph. Afternoon, when low tide you can walk to the temple ... and can enjoy the beautiful sunset. Try to also go to the right of the entrance gate, incredible views of the cliffs. It's better if you have a travel buddy

Tanah Lot Temple Jan 12, 2012
The temple of Tanah Lot stands on a rocky island just off the southwest coast of Bali. One of Bali's most sacred sea temples, Tanah Lot is dedicated to the guardian spirits of the sea. The temple itself is said to be guarded from evil by the sea snakes that inhabit the caves below.

The temple itself is not accessible to visitors, but magnificent views can be had from a variety of points nearby. Crowds especially gather on the terraces nearby to watch the glow of the sunset behind the temple. Naturally, there are plenty of souvenir shops and cafes with a view to keep you well-supplied while doing so.

Serene & Peaceful Apr 14, 2011
One of the many temples in Bali, but i personally found this to be classic, peaceful & there was a lot of serenity surrounding this place. Tanah Lot in Bali means "Land, Sea" which is great for describing this place as the temple is situated in the middle of the sea. Although we didnt get to go into the temple, since we can't really cross the sea to get to the island where the temple is, it was the view that is spectacular and worth going for. It's a great spot of photos too! This place is highly commercialized and there are many souvenir shops along the walkway towards the temple. You can look around for nice things that are reasonably priced.

make Sure you are going there at the right time.... May 28, 2011

this is a must go place when you are in Bali.

We had made a mistake because we put this destination as the 1st place to go in the morning. Ends up we are not allowed to enter the temple and we only can take photo from quite farrr away....
