Tana Hotel Bahir Dar Reviews
Beautiful located on the shore of Lake Tana, badly maintained Dec 23, 2011
In advance I have to note African standards are different from western standards. Especially, in my opinion, concerning the bathroom.
Tana Hotel is situated on the shore of Lake Tana and belongs to the Ghion Chain (www.ghionhotel.com.et). The first thing you notice upon arrival is the tropical vegetation.
We were staying two nights and were housed in room 223 overlooking the garden and lake view. A spacious room with television and a small, rather dirty bathroom. The sink was located in the bedroom. Be aware that the ventilation of the bathroom is connected to the one from next door. The next morning our ‘neighbors’ told us they could hear every single worth we had spoken in the bathroom. And we spook some… as the toilet was not flushing. We called for assistance; the solution was, lift the lid of the reservoir and refill with the hand shower…. a single solution….
We guess the first night no one was accommodated in the room above us, as the morning after the second night it was leaking in the bathroom and in the bedroom (above the sink). We guess the people upstairs took a shower….
The hotel has a boat landing (a trip on Lake Tana is a must do!) which you can reach directly from the garden. The garden, despite it’s beautiful vegetation, is poorly maintained. As is the hotel itself.
Breakfast on the first morning was continental (served at the table) and included eggs ‘any style’. I ordered boiled eggs and was surprised they brought me 3 small eggs, nicely served. The other morning the breakfast was buffet style, which was okay.
After our boat trip we had lunch at the terrace, soup (good!) and a sandwich (not so good). Both nights we had dinner in the (huge) restaurant. Liked the soup and the fish. Taken the price into consideration the food was good.
