Remember the old adage "half the fun of a destination is getting there". Well, that rings true of this monastery. Probably the most famed monastery in all of Bhutan (think "Ivy League" for those parents wishing to send their one child to learn to become a monk), this building sits high up amongst the rolling green hills overlooking Punakha. Flanked by the Himalayas and the Punakha Valley, the sight alone is a spectacle for all senses.

I said all senses... because it's not just how it looks. You can hear the birds chirping, you can take in the brilliant pure mountain air... it's almost like soul food for the whole body.

And this, even before I set into the monastery!

It appears that it's not just peace, but there are its fair share of juicy stories as well. As we walked into the courtyard with the main temple, we weren't let inside. And the only time on this trip did we see a gun wielding security guard. Why? It seems this place has a lot of old treasures that local villagers in the past have tried to steal.

There are more stunning views of the Cholusa Pass from behind the temple; and then we went to the lower level for amazing views of the mountain, the village on the hills and the Valley.

Whilst this may not be the "tourist gold" attraction one reads about in the travel books, please visit. It's beyond brilliant! All your senses will thank you for visiting.
