Elk soup for cheap in the center of town Aug 29, 2012
Upon arriving at my hostel and checking in, I was introduced to a few people about to head out for a bite to eat. I put my backpack up and joined them. I had only walked from the bus stop to the hostel so this was kind of my introduction to Tallinn. We went right to the town square and ducked into the little restaurant at the base of the town hall. There was an older lady in full costume serving elk stew and elk pasties. The stew was 2 euro and the pasties were 1. She had a light and dark beer on tap as well. The atmosphere was very cave like and dark, obviously trying to set the mood. We were served out of earthenware bowls without silverware. We were forced to sing or perform a skit if we wanted a spoon! I didn't really want one but felt the need to perform nonetheless. The lady was great to talk to and she spoke 3 or 4 different languages.
