Huge open air song arena Aug 31, 2012
The Tallinn Song Festival Grounds is the site of the festival held every five years or so. The festival is just a huge gathering of Estonians that get together and sing. The festival started in 1869 and had probably its biggest moment in 1988 when Estonians gathered and started singing patriotic songs which were forbidden under the Soviet rule. This led to what was called the Singing Revolution and the eventual overthrow of the Soviet Union in Estonia. The grounds are fairly close to Kadriorg Park and several art museums. The grounds are also used an arena for many big name artists on tour. The stage itself can hold up to 15,000 performs or the grounds upwards of 80,000.
