WHS Estonia: Historic Centre of Tallinn Feb 13, 2017
My visit to Tallinn was a bit of a jump into the unknown. The Estonian language, history and culture was completely new for me, but I must say I loved it there. The Old Town and the hilltop Toompea areas are relatively easy to navigate once you get your bearings. I'd recommend it for any would-be solo traveller as it's exciting and interesting, without being overly daunting. Of course, it's also a great destination for couples and families too.

Tallinn's historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and with so much to visit and enjoy in such a small area, you can easily spend 2-3 days here and only see a fraction of the sights. During my visit I spent much of my time in the city's outstanding museums; the Occupation Museum, the Estonian History Museum and the Kiek in de Kok Museum are all worthy of an hour or two of your time.

Other must sees include the Old Town Gate, Raekoja Plats (the Old Town Square), St Olav's Church and the wonderful Alexander Nevsky Orthodox Cathedral. Tallinn Old Town is a very safe place to wander so don't worry about venturing off the beaten track.

Beautifully preserved medieval city May 22, 2012
Tallinn may be my favorite city in Europe. The old walled city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is medieval as it gets. There are a staggering amount of museums and photo ops everywhere. The church, St. Olaf's, was once the tallest structure in the world in the 1500's and the climb to the clerestory balcony is well worth it, but not for those with health issues or claustrophobia. Walking around Toompea Hill and castle were also a highlight. So much to see! Several of the original defensive fortifications are still in place and you can tour Fat Margaret's Tower and Kiok In De Kok. The Torture Museum was also well worth visiting.

Tallinn Old Town - Medieval Glory Aug 10, 2011
Tallinn Old Town is a trip down history. The cobblestone streets, the waitresses dressed as they did back in the days of the kings and queens, the walls of the old town.. everything is rich in culture and heritage.

The prices in the restaurants match the glory of the set up too :-) Eat in the old town and you will pay up a decent amount.. eat in the new town, and the regular KFC will set you back by just a few. Depends on what you want to go for.

My friends and I ate in the old town quite regularly.. and returned from the holiday rich in experience and poor in the pocket. All good though.

Make sure you climb the slow, winding road to the top of the hill in the old town.. amazing views and photo opportunities. Club Venus is a great club in the city centre.

Food is absolutely fabulous. When in Tallin, eat local!
