Tallink Express Hotel Tallinn Reviews
Inexpensive & inelegant Jun 21, 2016
Location, location. The primary attribute driving our decision to book Tallink Express Hotel was its convenient position: a five minute walk from the ferry terminal and the same (other direction) to enter Old Town Tallinn. Not only does this minimize time lugging luggage about, it comes at a significant discount versus properties technically located within Old Town. I gather the hotel is owned by the Tallink Cruise Line, though I did not notice a connection publicized.
Expectations were not grand, which was good because Tallink only delivered the basics. Our room was on the smallish side and supplied with minimal amenities (i.e., only a body wash dispenser in the shower stall with absolutely no further soaps or shampoo in the room). The shower door jumped off its track while Laura was cleaning up, resulting in a flooded bathroom that forced us to bankrupt our supply of towels to mop the floor up.
Tempo Resto & Bar is located on campus, a fairly large facility which was good because the complimentary buffet breakfast seemed to be a large scale, military affair. I was impressed they did a reasonable job accommodating the masses, driven by what seemed to be some sort of enormous soccer camp the first morning. Despite the crush of human beings stuffed into the lines, the staff did an admirable job of keeping a broad selection well stocked. As this included pickled herring I was a happy camper!
Due to the masses of youngsters chowing down, things occasionally got rather messy. These only proved to be temporary debacles, however, because the sudden accumulations of swill drew the attention of the wait staff and they quickly jumped into action to remedy the situation. Beyond this there was limited interaction with hotel staff, nothing commendable nor intolerable.
Tallink has a reasonable refrigerated foods area adjacent to the main desk, offering a nice selection of food and beverage (including beer & wine). This was convenient accessory we made use of several times. There are several gas stations with convenience stores close by, but still a few blocks away so the mini-store was appreciated.
All things considered, a reasonable value for the price and a strategic spot if spending a night or two in Tallinn and arriving by ferry.
