I kinda suck at this game, don't I? I was really good at writing in the beginning, and now I write little meaningless entries. Sorry!! I will try to be better. At least I'm posting some pictures, so that's something. :) We are playing at the Civic Center in Tallahassee. That = arena where Florida State plays basketball. Its so weird!!! I've never experienced a show in a venue like that, but apparently we will do this a few times on this tour. Luckily RENT plays really well like that ... can ...

Visiting all 50 US State Capitol Buildings!: Tallahassee Travel Photos
posted by:
Jun 08, 1993 - Aug 22, 2006
It started innocently enough; I visited Juneau, Alaska in June 1993 and explored the State Capitol building. A few months later, It was Montgomery, Alabama's. In the course of time, it became a hobby. Near the end it became a bit of an obsession. Then, in August of 2006, I visited my 50th US State Capitol building in Pierre, SD. (Yeh!) Yes, I know, I'm a geography nerd.... All entries are maintained in on the 'first visit' date.

Well, after my winter stay in Alabama, it was time to move on. My summer plan was to slowly move north and reach New England in the late summer, early fall. My first stop was to revisit the Elks Lodge in Tallahassee. While here, I Visited the Tallahassee Museum which was a combination of Zoo and Museum. It was a nice place to visit and the animals had very nice enclosures in which to roam and play. Unlike some of the zoos that you used to see where the animals were cooped up in cages. They d...

Last night I didn’t hear Jag come to bed.  This morning I did not hear him get up until he began using the hair dryer!  I was so pooped out last night I did not even dream.    Our hotel serves a full, hot breakfast every morning and it was pretty good.  While enjoying our meal, a darling little girl named Hayley sat with her parents at the next table.  She was shy at first and I did not try to talk to her.  After a while, we began to talk about her toy,...

Wake Forest at Florida State
posted by:

On Saturday, we drove from Jacksonville halfway across the northern part of Florida to Tallahassee to see a college football game between Wake Forest and Florida State.  We didn't actually see much of Tallahassee other than driving around and walking seven blocks from the parking lot to the stadium.  Since both of us grew up in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, we are big Wake Forest fans.  We were some of the only ones there.  Quite a few people were not pleased to see ...

Tallahassee, FL: Florida Dialysis Day
posted by:
Oct 17, 2005 - Jun 02, 2008
I had the opportunity to visit Florida's capitol city for an amazing experience.  I have always been one to write letters to congress, my senators, the president, etc for causes I believe in.  During this time last March, I had the fortune to participate in Florida Dialysis Day,a day of lobbying for our dialysis patients.  It was so amazing to talk to our representatives, to experience what it is like to lobby for a cause.  I was so grateful for this opportunity and hope I...

Before leaving Tallahassee, We visited Maclay Gardens. More than a hundred years ago this land was a working plantation. Alfred Maclay bought this site in 1923 for a winter home and began planting his gardens. 28-acres of huge oaks and pines with Camellias, Azaleas, and Magnolias. After his death in 1953 his wife gave the gardens to the State of Florida. The Maclay House Museum was decorated for the holidays. The park has 1000 acres offering swimming boating, fishing, picnics, h...

I'm spending 4 months exploring the US and what I want to do with my life for the next 5 years - a combination of road trips through the most scenic areas, camping, and staying in 2 of my favorite cities (Chicago and San Francisco). I'm packing my trusty Mazda Tribute with a box of books, a tent, a GPS system, and lots of music and heading out in June.
