Takumi Utrecht Reviews
Sushi at Takumi Sep 01, 2010
Takumi is a Japanese all you can eat restaurant and loungebar, located in Utrecht along the highway A2 in the Foodspot, a large building located in an industrial area. As all the restaurants in this building, Takumi has a different concept than most restaurants in Holland.
Takumi is divided into two spaces: a modern seating area and an area which is decorated in Japanese style. You have to take your shoes of in this area. We weren't so comfortable with this, so we chose to sit in the normal seating area.
When it comes to ordering food, there are some rules. On the table are a piece of paper and a pen. There are five rounds and in each round, you can order up to five items from the menu. These include dishes such as all kinds of sushi, noodle soup, tempura dishes, small rice dishes and more. Write the dishes you would like down and hand the paper over to the waiter. He or she will bring it to the kitchen and will serve it when it's ready. Before you can go on to the next round, you have to eat everything that you ordered. If there is some left, you have to pay extra. It sounds a bit unfriendly, but it is a good way of preventing waste.
We only made it up to three rounds, as the dishes are quite heavy. What I had were the Boston sushi rolls (with salmon, cream cheese, cucumber and sesame), Hagi sushi rolls (with mackerel, chives, miso mayonaise and onion), seaweed rolls with cucumber, scallops and tempura shrimps and crab sticks. I had sushi before, but the other dishes were new to me. Nevertheless I enjoyed the meal. It all tasted really good.
The staff is all Japanese, which I thought was nice. They were friendly, helpful with explaining the concept and quick with serving the dishes.
The costs per person are 26.50 euros in weekends (3 euros cheaper during the week), excluding drinks. This allows you to sit for 2.5 hours.
In all, a good Japanese restaurant with the choice of a traditional seating area, tasty food and an unusual concept.
