Taking your dog on the buses Reviews

Aug 18, 2006

In July last year (2005) we were in Lyon and staying on a campsite just outside the City. We decided to take the bus to the City instead of taking our camper and finding a parking space. On the way in we got on the bus and paid the fare, the driver saw our two dogs and said to be carefull. we just thought they should not be allowed to missbehave etc. We had an uneventful journey and spent the day in the City.

On the return journey we went to the bus station and found the return bus. The driver, a different one,  did't say anything when we bought the tickets but shortly after we set of  we were approached by two young men in bright yellow t shirts who turned out to be security guards for the bus company. They insisted we get off the bus as dogs were not allowed. We obviously knew what they were getting at even though we don't speak French but decided to stand our ground and pretend we did not understand.. They were insistant that we get of but we were rescued by an elderly lady who, we think, told the guards to leave us alone. The driver looked back and we think told the guards that it was his bus and he would decide if we had to go. Anyway nothing more was said and we completed the journey. We dont know if this would be the same if there was another bus company we could have used but just be aware that it seems you cannot take your dog on the bus in Lyon. In Switzerland you can take your dog anywhere but thats another story.

By the way the picture sown was taken inside our camper, not on the bus

Hello,

it's indeed forbidden to have a dog in the bus in Lyon. Only exception are for small dogs that you transport in a basket and dogs for blind people. It's more a question of place than anything else, so if the bus is empty, they would probably not say anything but they can decide to throw you out of the bus anyway. ^^ It's allowed to have a dog in the trains but you must pay a special ticket for that.
Cheers
