Taking the bus - the locals do it May 30, 2008
The least expensive way to get from Cancun to Tulum is by bus. The Ado bus is how most locals get around in the area and is tourist friendly too. First class tickets cost about $8 and makes one stop in Playa del Carmen. The second class ticket makes three more stops and cost $2 less.

This is also the slowest way to travel - what takes about and hour by car takes nearly two-and-a-half-hours regardless of your choice to take first class or not.

The busses are comfortable and have bathrooms that are much better than the ones you'll find at the bus station. You will also be treated to an American movie dubbed in Spanish for your enjoyment. Not a bad way to go for a budget traveler.
