When I first got to Costa Rica, I had a problem figuring out the buses. I was fairly new to the travel thing when it came to the bus, but needed transportation. I found that the best bus schedule and most accessible was in the back of my Lonely Planet. Be sure to have a recent one, though, if you're going to use it for the bus schedules as they do change. It gave great maps, told which terminal to go through, and gave a good idea of prices and times. Be careful getting taxis between the bus terminals, though. Take the red ones with the yellow triangles unless you can be comfortable enough to know you won't get ripped off. I paid way too much one time and regretted it later. Oops!

To td22tmp: I do believe he means city to city rides. Yes! Really inexpensive!

A couple of years ago I found CR bus schedules via the internet. Try Google.

more about the buses that went from one city to the next, but they were all pretty cheap... example, San Jose to Cahuita (caribbean coast) is $6.50 American... to Quepos and Manuel Antonio on the Pacific it was $4. Some are a bit more expensive, getting to the boarders is a bit more, around $10 for a ticket from San Jose to the Caribbean boarder of Panama, Sixola. They were def easy to navigate though, once you figured out the system. :) Good luck!

Back to San Jose
I was heading back to San Jose today to catch my second GAP tour through Costa Rica.  I was sad to be leaving Adam and Nina, who I had met on the last tour.  Since I was heading to San Jose…San Jose. It was a lot safer and nicer than taking the local chicken bus back to San Jose.  I arrived…
