One of the expensive hotels in the world Sep 15, 2011
Hotel Taj Mahal Palace and Towers (Old Taj and New Taj) is one of the expensive hotels to stay in the world. Located opp to the Gateway of India arch, this place is an ICONIC place.

Gateway of India is a huge arch built to remember the visit of King George V and Queen Mary to Bombay. This place is a famous tourist attraction and we can see many balloon vendors, snacks vendors, photographers around. Also we can feed birds too there. This place is guarded by Mumbai police after terrorist attacks.

Boats will start from here to Elephanta caves, one of the world heritage sites. Views of Gateway of India and Taj Mahal palace & towers are wonderful from the boat. I have taken many pictures and attached herewith for viewing pleasure of our travel buddies.

Tourist Sunrise Mar 13, 2011
The Gateway of India is a free site to visit right out the front door of the Taj Majhal luxury hotel. Since the Mumbai attacks you cannot get very close to the base since it is now fenced off with a permanent police guard, but it is still a great site to sit and gaze at during the sunrise before it is too hot to enjoy. At the crack of dawn the street sweepers will be out with their brooms, the flocks of pigeons looking for scraps, and earliest chai tea sellers peddling their goods.

Gathering of locals and touts Oct 04, 2008
This huge arch that faces Mumbai Harbour, was built in 1911 to celebrate the royal visit of the British King George V. Nowadays it’s a favorite hangout for locals, tourists and touts alike. If you want to escape the crowds, but still want to have a look at the arch, then go as early in the morning as you can. Chances are there are only a few locals (who will want to have their picture taken with you) and a couple of balloon sellers.

Right behind the Gateway of India is the Taj Mahal Palace and Tower, the most upscale hotel in Mumbai. It’s been around since 1903 and the outside is quite nice. I’ve been told the inside is also pretty cool if you’re into the whole ‘posh hotel lobby- scene’. Fact is that this hotel suffered significant damage in the Mumbai attacks of November 27th 2008. I’m not sure if the hotel is open for visitors again.
