Taiwan Vacation Guide
An island nation just off the coast of southeastern China, Taiwan is home to more than 23 million people and is considered one of the most densely populated places in the entire world. Outside of its massively populated cities it is known for its incredibly steep mountains, lush forests, and some of the most idyllic and fantastical scenery in Asia.
Visiting Taiwan is a treat, but it should be noted that which portion of the country you visit dictates what you're going to see and do. The country can be broken down into five regions. Central Taiwan is a part of the country that contains the central mountains, and the western coastal area, with such places as Sun Moon Lake and Taichung. Eastern Taiwan contains the majority of the island’s natural beauty, such as the Taroko Gorge and the city of Taitung. Northern Taiwan contains the capital of Taipei as well as Hsinchu, which is considered one of the high-tech capitals of the world. There is also the Yanmgmingshan National Park. Southern Taiwan is the tropical region, and the outlying islands, such as Green Island and Orchid Island, contain even more sights and sounds to experience.
As an Asian country, there is a decidedly Eastern feel to everything. The cultures and traditions might seem quaint and frilly to Westerners, but these traditions go back thousands of years, and have been handed down for generations. The people are considered some of the friendliest in Asia, and although the country is technically part of the Republic of China, it is governed by its own system.
Picking a destination within Taiwan will be dependent upon your preferences. If you want to experience a modern hive of activity, then stick to one of the main cities. If you want to see some of the most amazing scenery on the planet, head up into the Kenting National Park, or visit the forests of Alishan. Either way, you are bound to be amazed.
