Taisu Berlin Reviews
Sushi and Thai cuisine under one roof Nov 09, 2014
I don’t quite understand why is it so difficult to find a restaurant serving local food when you most want it? Thus, after walking rather a vast perimeter of Checkpoint Charlie in search of one, we eventually settled for a sushi and Thai restaurant.
Taisu establishment give the impression of a modern and a well presented place without a standard Asian décor. The only pieces indicating Asian culture were large paintings on the wall representing mostly sumo fighters mingled in Japanese scenery. Though very little design was of oriental origin, the restaurant emanated a kind of tranquillity and serenity.
Luckily we managed to beat the crowds again arriving here just in a perfect moment to secure a table. Once we got seated and ordered the drinks – hot jasmine tea to relax, it was time to make a decision on food.
Jasmin tea was served in a pot with a warmer – cool idea to keep your tea at the right temperature, and rough brown sugar which I have not seen before in any other place.
The restaurant offers a pronounced selection of sushi, soups, salads, Asian tapas and main dishes including curry dishes selection.
Our choice was slightly predetermined – a soup and sushi were on the agenda. Subsequently we ordered Wan Tan Soup followed by a sushi combo plater for 2 called ‘Gourmet’ consisting of 24 sushi pieces with Miso Soup included.
We enjoyed devouring the soups which were appropriately portioned with remarkable flavours. Shortly after the starter we received our sushi platter. It looked very vibrant and delectable. One could notice right away that the platter included some fusion sushi which turned out to have been full of flavour. I must admit, one of the great sushi experiences in Europe.
To wrap up the dinner I settled on another drink - Mango Lassi made with mango fruit pulp and yoghurt. What a pleasant way to end the evening :)
Our bill at the end of the evening came to around €31 which is reasonably cheap considering the location, quality of food and portion size.
Recommended for a visit to anyone who would like to experience fusion sushi and Thai food in Berlin.
