The largest zoo in Asia Jan 26, 2009
Taipei Zoo is the largest zoo in Asia. You can easily go to the Taipei zoo in the MRT and the last stop is the Taipei Zoo. The entry fee is 30 taiwan dollars (almost USD 90 cents) if you are a student in one of the Taiwanese schools. Since I had a college id from the US, it was not recognized and had to pay the full fare of 60 taiwan dollars (USD 1.78). The zoo is very big so wear your walking shoes. The zoo also provides a shuttle from one area to the other if you don't want to walk inside the zoo.
The zoo is divided into many regions and the animals that go with it. You have an african area, desert animals area, tropical animals area, cold climate animals, nocturnal animals exhibit, reptiles, and a very good insectorium. The insectorium lets you walk among different insects and butterflies that live freely in an enclosed garden.
Make sure you don't miss the most famous celebrities of the zoo. The two Pandas that were given by China as a sign of friendship and unity.
Most people won't notice the variety of flora in the zoo. But the zoo has a lot of different plant and tree species that are neatly labeled in english and mandarin. All the animal exhibits were clean and spacious so that the animals were active most of the time.
If you have a day to spare and like animals, Taipei Zoo is a must visit in Taiwan.
