Tahiti Hawaiin BBQ Visalia Reviews
Hawaiin taste May 31, 2009
Update: As of spring 2009 this place has CLOSED ****. Open less than a year, this small family dining and take-out eatery features Hawaiian style foods. That means frequent use of Spam. Hawaiian people eat more Spam than any other in the world. The most asked for Spam item is Musubi, a sushi style item made form a small brick of stickly rice with a slice of spam on top and wrapped with a large pieve of seaweed.
Another popular item is called Moco Loco, a homemade hamburger patty served on a bed of rice with fried eggs on top, covered with brown gravy. They also have what they call "Gravy fries", a popular lunch item, french fries covered in brown gravy.
The menu has Hawaiian barbecue chicken, which is grilled and marinated in a special Hawaiian barbecue sauce. The menu also features a Maui pineapple chicken, which is breaded and served in a pineapple sauce. The menu also includes beef and pork ribs, roasted pork and fish also served up several different ways, including smoked with various leaves and sea salt. You will also find Saimin, Hawaiian noodles that you can add to your choice of meat. Most meals come with a Macaroni salad that is very different than that found in the states. Theirs includes carrots, onions and tuna.
We tried the sampler platters which gave a little of each of the meats and fish. Different, and interesting. The prices are modest, but we think calling ahead and for take-out would be a good idea. Seating is scant and there is no atmosphere.
